Open Business Models and Open Innovation

Kita sekarang berbicara bisnis aja yee, karena gua anak bisnis yang ajib… wkwkwk… Untuk membahas judul ini, pertama-tama kita harus tau, kenapa kita harus open business models?  Coba kita tela’ah apa yang sebenernya dimaksud dengan open business model. Sebuah business model itu mengarah kepada dua fungsi yang sangat penting, yang pertama adalah menciptakan nilai, dan yang kedua business model tersebut bisa mengambil porsi dari nilai-nilai yang telah diciptakan tersebut. Business models ini menciptakan nilai dengan mendefinisikan serangkaian kegiatan dari bahan baku (bahan mentah) sampai ke konsumen akhir yang akan menghasilkan suatu produk atau jasa baru dengan nilai yang ditambahkan di seluruh berbagai kegiatan bisnis. Bisnis model ini mengambil nilai dengan cara menciptakan sumber daya yang unik, aset, atau keadaan diantara aktifitas-aktifitas bisnis, dimana perusahaan bisa merasakan kenyamanan dari keunggulan kompetitif (competitive advantage).

Kalau Open Innovation itu, waktu itu Henry Chesbrough pernah bilang ke gua, katanya, “Open Innovation is a paradigm that assumes that firms can and should use external ideas as well as internal ideas, and internal and external paths to market, as the firms look to advance their technology. Open Innovation combines internal and external ideas into architectures and systems whose requirements are defined by a business model.“.

Dan dia terus menjelaskan lebih dalam tentang innovation, si om Henry ngomong lagi meneruskan, “Open innovation is the use of purposive inflows and outflows of knowledge to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation, respectively. [This paradigm] assumes that firms can and should use external ideas as well as internal ideas, and internal and external paths to market, as they look to advance their technology.” Naaahh ngerti kan maksudnyaa? Pasti ngerti laaah… wkwkwkw…

Open new business model yang didapat dari open innovation pasti menghasilkan revenue tapi kita juga pasti harus mengeluarkan cost. Ya pokoknya kalo dalem bisnis, kita kalo ngeluarin cost harus dapet revenue lah gitu. Untuk prosesnya, cost yang dikeluarkan dari open innovation adalah Internal development cost yang berupa closed model, yang nantinya akan menghasilkan Own market revenue. Selanjutnya Open Innovation business model mengeluarkan Internal and external development costs, yang nantinya juga bakal menghasilkan revenues, seperti own market value, and New revenues (License, Spin-off, and Sale/divestiture).

MANAGING OPEN INNOVATION: IT TAKES AN OPEN BUSINESS MODEL

“Whether you are in a large organization or a small one, chances are you need to open up your innovation processes. But to do this effectively, you must connect your business model to your innovation process. Companies that are large typically enjoy strong business models. However, they face challenges and risks that small companies do not. It it hard for large companies with successful business models to change them to exploit Open Innovation opportunities. Small companies, on the other hand, lack the strong business models and resources to enable them to exploit the opportunities of Open Innovation without fear of being copied by a larger foe. IP protection is one of the many tools needed in their business model to achieve success.”
